A piece of PI and a cup of coffee
Discover how Operational Intelligence can help you.
Recently, an announcement was made that many worries ever since: From 2024, OSIsoft PI (part of AVEVA) will stop supporting PI Processbook. This means that, in less than two years, all PI ProcessBook users must migrate successfully to its successor: PI Vision.
The announcement has filled PI ProcessBook users with questions to operational leaders and data managers. In addition to the incoming changes and possible doubts, there are testimonies of complicated migrations and stressed teams unable to achieve a successful changeover.
At AG Solution, we believe that the digitization of your production shouldn’t be stressful. In this post, we'll help you to solve the main doubts you might have about this transition.
The most straightforward answer is that PI ProcessBook has an outdated code base compared to other products that AVEVA offers. Outdated code means that it relies on outdated technology. This can pose a risk to the safety of critical operations.
AVEVA will discontinue support for PI ProcessBook as of December 31, 2024. Please note that as of December 31, 2022, PI ProcessBook will no longer receive security updates or fixes. Consider this in your planning as any security risk may leave your production vulnerable to attacks.
Because PI Vision is not only better, it is necessary for a modern plant. Being web-based, PI Vision lets you view your operations data in real time from any computer, tablet, or cell phone. This giant leap forward cuts the need to be in the control room.
Modern visualization that is scalable to the entire organization ends the need for multiple versions and screens of operating data. Because it is web-based, sharing a single URL is all it takes for team members to view everything from a single, reliable source.
PI Vision uses different technologies than PI ProcessBook. This means that there are some migrations of displays that might be incomplete. Successful migration of all displays requires a thorough knowledge of PI Vision and AVEVA PI tools, as well as experience and knowledge of the particularities of the technologies involved in all processes.
There is no universal method for this. Some displays will have to be redone based on current technologies and the specific needs of the plant. Your end users will require PI Vision training and may need some refresher courses in the future.
Most manufacturing companies need more staff, time, or knowledge to perform this migration. It is best to look for a partner with experience in digitization and industrial processes, as well as knowledge and expertise in AVEVA and PI products.
When it comes to knowledge, experience, and ability in both PI ProcessBook and PI Vision, as well as in digitization of industrial processes, AG Solution Group is your ideal partner. In addition to more than 20 years of experience in consulting and industrial services, we are a trusted partner of AVEVA PI.
Our priority is your needs. That is why we guarantee that the migration of your displays to PI Vision will be done with the necessary analysis, execution, support, and training avoiding worries on your side and enabling you to focus on your core activities.
The clock is ticking. There are less than two years left to migrate to PI Vision.
