Add Interquim Project: PCS7 updating project in a regulated Pharma environment

Interquim has finished updating the control system of its plant in Sant Cugat del Vallès. Interquim is part of the Ferrer HealthTech division and manufactures active substances for the pharmaceutical industry. It has modern, flexible multi-production plants that comply with the rigorous quality specifications required in the pharmaceutical sector.

The project consisted of the updating the control and manufacturing system to the latest existing version through Simatic PCS7/BATCH batches and the report and data Historization system through Simatic IT Historian, as well as virtualizing the entire PC architecture.

The architecture comprises: Six OS Servers (one per production area) – 1 OS Server (Alarm centre) – 1 BATCH Server – 1 Historian data server – 18 OS/BATCH Clients – 2 ES Engineering Stations.

  • Control System: Updating the current PCS7 V6.1 SP3 control system to the new PCS7 V8.0 SP2
  • Batch System: Updating the current SIMATIC BATCH V6.1 SP3 control system to the new PCS7 V8.0 SP2
  • MES System: Updating the current MES Simatic IT V6.1 SP1 system to the new Simatic IT V6.6

One great step forward in the automation of the Interquim plant was virtualization of all the PC Stations in the system, allowing more secure scheduled back-up of all the machines, and with the hardware redundancy offered by Ferrer’s ESXi servers.

According to AG Solution’s specifications, Ferrer’s IT department created a new control architecture so that AG Solution could start installing and commissioning all the equipment.

The entire PCS7 V8.0 SP2 (DQ/OQ) control system was validated with success.
